So welcome everyone! I'm told I'm not only the best man, but I'm Dan with a plan. I've known this day was coming officially for about a year, but I guess I first knew somehow about 20 years ago when Mike and met. Of course, back then we wouldn't have guessed we'd someday love girls or just how we'd be celebrating so many years later.
Back then I think our thoughts went as far as what was in our lunch bag and how many hours it was until school was out, so we could tie on our masks, battle evil megalomaniacs, and yell Cowabunga!
For those of you that don't remember what that means, Mike and I were fierce Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back then. School, sports, and girls couldn't keep our attention from our pseudo personalities. Mikey here was Michelangelo and I was Don -- Dan, Don, hey, close enough -- or Donatello, and our battling criminals from the sewers made us the friends we are today.
Alice and Mike, let me say thank you. It's an honor to share this day with you. It was a beautiful wedding and although the reception is just starting, it also looks like a sensational celebration. You've done a great job and you both should relax and take it all in.
Ladies, thanks for making us look good. We'd have been a bunch of sorry groomsmen without lovely bridesmaids on our arms. You each look stunning and hey, I think you really can wear those dresses again! You're beautiful. Thank you!
And all of you, Alice's and Mike's friends and family, and those of you we're not sure who you are, thank you for being here to share their day. I'm sure they'll thank you themselves, but let me reinforce it and thank you again for making my friends' day special. It wouldn't be the same without us!
It must have been 2-1/2 years ago when I realized these two were meant for each other. Mike and I love baseball, and when Alice bent down to pick up the hot dog he dropped in front of her as we climbed to our seats at a Cubs game, I knew he'd hit a home run in her eyes. She laughed and smiled at him like a woman who just bought her first pair of Jimmy Choos.
We sat with her the rest of the game, but I don't think Mike saw much after the first inning. He ignored me, lost interest in the game, and kept his starry eyes on Alice until the seventh inning stretch when they decided we were leaving for some drinks elsewhere. Needless to say, his extra tickets went to her from then on, and I think I've heard him humming "Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener..." many times since.
Mike, Alice, congratulations. I couldn't be happier for you. If the Cubs aren't going to win a World Series, I'm glad to know you found each other, making for the best winning team.
Mike, you know I love you, buddy, and Alice, you're the best friend a guy could have to marry his best friend. I've gained a beautiful friend in you, and I know we'll all be close from here on out. The two of you look outstanding this evening, only second to how you look as husband and wife.
It's a night to celebrate. The band will be excellent, and I see a sumptuous wedding cake just waiting for all of us to enjoy. It's going to be a great evening as I'm sure most of you are already anticipating.
I'm sure Mike and Alice are ready to let their hair down, and we groomsmen have a few surprises in store...and I see some other attractive singles here, so maybe we can set another great romance into action too.
So let's welcome the newlyweds to their life together! Everyone, join me in raising a glass to Mike and Alice. May your future be as bright as your smiles are tonight. Love may sometimes be difficult to find, but you two have successfully found it together.
Cheers! Better yet, come on everybody...Cowabunga!
